Beginner You can join this class anytime, and your first trial class is free of charge. This class is aimed at absolute beginner level. If you have never danced before, then you would normally spend 1-2 month at this level, depending on your progress. If you have some dance experience, you will be able to move to a higher level after a few weeks. The requirement for moving a level up is confortable execution of basic figures (cross body, single right-, single left-, inside-, outside- turns, butterfly, drop-catch turns, shoulder-check, copa, and wrap). You can join us on all other Wednesdays.
Improver Normally you would spend one semester (3-5 month) at this level.
By the end of the course, you can execute simple figures and combos with ease,
on time and with styling.
Once your level allows it you can attend the intermediate class parallel to this class.
We close each semester with a choreography presentation. The choreography is assembled
from the moves and styling vocabulary that we covered throughout the semester, and participation
is optional but is open to all students of the course.
Intermediate This level aims to smooth your leading/following. At this level you can already improvise figures and you will be learning complex figure combinations. We close each semester with a choreography presentation. The choreography is assembled from the moves and styling vocabulary that we covered throughout the semester. Participation is optional but is open to all students of the course.
Advanced Shines This class is focusing on advanced footwork
and solo steps, mostly influenced by Eddie Torres. We are covering 4-5 shine combinations,
throughout the semester. The footwork is advanced, however you can start attending these
classes as a beginner. The first few times are might be hard, but if you are persistent you
will be able to catch up in about a month. We will provide you with the necessary videos to
be able to practice at home as well. Shines are an integral part of new york style
social dancing, and once you get confortable with it, it really helps with your timing and it is
a great exercise to keep your beat. You should consider joining this class even if you are just starting.
Advanced partnerwork This class is by invitation only, and is aimed for dancers
who have been dancing for about 2 years already. You will learn more about musicality,
timing, versatility and flexibility on the dance floor. We will reinforce the complex
patterns from the Intermediate levels by using multiple variations of the same patterns.
Students from this level, can join the advanced show team.
Lady's Styling These classes are aimed at expanding and perfecting your styling vocabulary
for partnerwork and for solo shines. Simultaneously with the footwork, we are incorporating
arm-styling, hip-rolls, body-waves, and head whips into your moves. Styling classes take place in modules
Practice - All levels You can come along to this session to practice what you have learnt in the
classes before you take it to a crowded dancefloor. Take advantage of this one hour practice on a
great wooden dancefloor with a lot of space and some great music.
